CRBI-WLAQ-The Ridge 95.7 Fish Fry & Green Expo
Some 50 CRBI volunteers served up nearly 1000 plates of catfish, hushpuppies, cole slaw and cheese grits as CRBI celebrated its 10th anniversary fish fry. The Fry, sponsored by WLAQ and The Ridge 95.7 and a host of other supporters, helped generate more than $11,000 for CRBI programs. Several lucky CRBI supporters went home with great prizes. Jack Martischnig of Rome and Buddy Tanner of Rockmart won a Panama City Beach vacations courtesy of Jason Free Realty Beach Rentals. Micah Zimmerman of Rome won a Delta Airlines ticket courtesy of Travel Leaders by guessing "650" in the Coosa Plastic Population Guessing Game. The canoe holding plastic bottles collected from the Coosa River during our Rivers Alive clean up contained 646 bottles. Leigh Barrell of Rome won a Wilderness Systems Kayak courtesy of Cedar Creek Park and Donna Baxley of Rome won a Glacier Bay high-efficiency toilet courtesy of The Home Depot in our "Toilet Toss" raffle. The 9th Annual CRBI-Northwest Georgia Credit Union Fish Fry & Green Expo was one greasy good time as some 850 people dined on catfish filets, hushpuppies, cole slaw and cheese grits Nov. 13.
CRBI thanks the more than 60 volunteers who helped prepare and serve the meal as well as more than a dozen local business sponsors and supporters. Together, you helped generate more than $12,000 to protect our drinking water sources and North America's most biologically diverse river basin...and we had a lot of fun doing it!
Darren Henderson of Armuchee won $250 in the CRBI-Northwest Georgia Credit Union Pong Toss game; Pat York of Rome won a new Wilderness Systems kayak in our Cedar Creek Park raffle and Scott Bowerman of Rome won a Giant Bicycle from Cycle Therapy in our bicycle raffle. The real winners, however, were the fish (with the exception of those we ate) who will benefit from the funds raised at the Fish Fry.
Some 50 CRBI Musselhead volunteers fried up and served more than 1400 catfish filets and hushpuppies along with mountains of cole slaw and hushpuppies at the 8th Annual CRBI-Northwest Georgia Credit Union Fish Fry held Nov. 7 at Rome First United Methodist Church. And thanks to our Green Expo vendors, our patrons had the opportunity to learn about everythng from honey bees to vegetable-oil powered vehicles. The fundraiser generated more than $10,000 for CRBI advocacy, education, water monitoring and restoration programs.
